Pet nutraceutical product seized

A package containing a nutraceutical formulated for pets was identified by a courier company based at a depot in the East Midlands.

The package arrived from Singapore containing products destined for a residential address in Penrith.

The parcel was detained and subsequently seized by an inspector from the Veterinary Medicines Directorate.

The following product was seized:

  • 5 tubs of Immune+ each containing 60 capsules.

A nutraceutical product is a food or naturally occurring food supplement marketed as having a beneficial effect on health and requires a Marketing Authorisation if medicinal claims are made.

This product was seized as it indicates medicinal claims for atopic skin conditions and therefore meets the criteria for classification as a medicine. This product would therefore require an authorisation before being imported, possessed,supplied or administered within the UK.
