The Sea Fisheries (Amendment) Regulations 2022 retained and amended the Bass Measures 2020 as per Article 10 of Council Regulation (EU).

This means that revised measures on vessels catching European Seabass were introduced on 21 May 2022.

The bass control measures described implement measures designed to manage fishing effort to help protect and improve bass stocks.

Bass limits for 2022 and 2023

The Sea Fisheries (Amendment) Regulations 2022: Increased trawls and seines, fixed gillnet and hook and line bass limits for 2022 and 2023 which was one of the outcomes from the annual UK/EU fishing opportunities consultations in December 2021.

Bass authorisations letters issued remain valid into 2023.

You should continue to refer to the Bass Fishing Guidance 2023 for further detail as it may be updated in 2023 in line with the outcomes from the annual UK/EU fishing opportunities consultations in December 2022.

For now there are no changes to landings limits.
