The Home Office is seeking up to 16 new members with expertise in the following areas to join the ACMD:

  • impact of drug use on society and communities - for example, antisocial behaviour
  • public health related prevention or education in relation to drug use
  • general practitioner with experience in primary care of treating people for drug use and dependence
  • medicinal or forensic chemist in relation to drug use (which may include familiarity with the Misuse of Drugs Act and its regulations)
  • police officer or enforcement in relation to drug related offences
  • legal (solicitor, barrister or judge) in relation to drug use
  • neuropharmacologist in relation to drug use
  • epidemiologist in relation to drug use
  • behavioural scientist in relation to population behavioural change
  • coroner in relation to drug use
  • clinical or academic psychologist in relation to drug use
  • young peoples mental health in relation to drug use
  • international expert in policy or research in relation to drug use
  • clinical pharmacologist, focused on research, including investigational drugs
  • criminologist in relation to detection and sanctions being used to reduce crime in society or prison
  • researcher on use of illegal drugs for medicinal purposes

ACMD Chair Professor Owen Bowden-Jones said:

This new recruitment campaign is a fantastic opportunity to bring additional expertise onto the ACMD. I would encourage individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, experience and expertise to apply for this role and support the ACMD in its provision of independent scientific advice to government.

All the appointments will be for an initial period of up to 3 years.
