Prime Minister appoints five new British Museum Trustees

Elizabeth Corley is the Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Global Investors. Prior to joining Allianz, Elizabeth spent eleven years working at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers during which time she became Managing Director and Head of the EMEA Asia Pacific Mutual Fund Business. Before this, Elizabeth was consultant and then partner with Coopers & Lybrand, and prior to that worked for a number of years in the Life & Pensions industry. In 2014, she was appointed to the European Securities and Markets Authoritys stakeholder group. Elizabeth is also an Advisory Council member of TheCityUK Ltd and a member of TheCityUK International Regulatory Strategy Group. Since April 2011 she has served as non-executive director on the Financial Reporting Council. Since 2012 Elizabeth has served on the British Museum Investment Committee, and is a member of the CFA Future of Finance Council and an independent non-executive director of Pearson plc. In June 2014, Elizabeth was asked to chair a panel of market practitioners to contribute to the Fair and Effective Markets Review, jointly initiated by the UK Treasury, the Bank of England and the Financial Conduct Authority. She is now acting chair of a standards body set up as a result of that Review. Elizabeth is an Advisory Council member for the AQR Institute of Asset Management at London Business School, and a member of the Microloan Foundation Womens Development Board. As well as being a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Elizabeth is a writer and has had five thriller novels published. She holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Studies and has been made a Fellow of the CFA. She was awarded a CBE in the UK 2015 New Years Honours. Elizabeths term as Trustee will commence on 2 October 2016 and end on 1 October 2020.

Muriel Gray is chair of the board of trustees of Glasgow School of Art and the first woman to hold that position. She was also the first, and remains the only, woman Rector of Edinburgh University in its 400 year history. She is a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art and worked as a professional illustrator before joining the National Museum of Antiquities in Edinburgh as assistant head of design. She worked for over two decades in the media, presenting many diverse network radio and television programmes, producing and directing, and then founding her own production company which grew into the largest in Scotland. She has won several prizes for television and journalism including columnist of the year at the Scottish press awards. She is the author of five books, three novels and two nonfiction, and many short stories and essays. She was the chair of the judges for the 2007 Orange Prize for Fiction, and serves on both BAFTA and the Royal Television Society Awards juries. Muriel has been awarded honorary degrees from the University of Abertay and The Glasgow School of Art and Glasgow University. She has served as a trustee on the boards of Lomond Shores, Event Scotland, The Lighthouse, The Glasgow Science Centre, The National Maritime Museum, The Childrens Parliament, and the GSA Development Trust. She is a working patron of Trees for Life, The Craighalbert Centre, and the Scottish Additional Needs Mediation Forum. Muriels term will commence on 5 January 2016 and end on 4 January 2020.

Sir Paul Ruddock is Chair of Oxford University Endowment Management and Chair of the Oxford University Investment Committee. Sir Paul was a co-founder of Lansdowne Partners in 1998 and CEO of Lansdowne Partners Limited from 1998 to 2013 when he retired. He was recently appointed as a Commissioner of the National Infrastructure Commission. From May 2007 to October 2015 he was Chair the Board of Trustees of the Victoria & Albert Museum as well as Chairman of the Gilbert Trust for the Arts. He is a Trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. Sir Pauls term as Trustee will commence on 2 October 2016 and end on 1 October 2020.

Mark Price was appointed as a non-executive member of the Cabinet Office Board in November 2015. Mark is currently Managing Director of Waitrose, where he will serve until April 2016. Alongside his Waitrose role, he is Deputy Chairman of the John Lewis Partnership. Mark is also Chairman of The Princes Countryside Fund, and Deputy Chairman of Channel 4. Marks term as Trustee will commence on 2 October 2016 and end on 1 October 2020.

Dame Nemat (Minouche) Shafik is Deputy Governor, Markets and Banking, at the Bank of England. She was previously Deputy Managing Director of the IMF, overseeing work on countries in Europe and the Middle East with responsibility for the IMFs $1 billion administrative budget. She was Permanent Secretary of the Department for International Development (DFID) from March 2008 to March 2011. Prior to going to DFID in 2004, Nemat was the youngest ever Vice President at the World Bank. She is also a Governor of the National Institute for Economic and Social Research. She has held a number of academic appointments at the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania and the Economics Department at Georgetown University. Nemat has a BA in Economics and Politics from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics, a DPhil in Economics from St. Antonys College, Oxford University, and honorary degrees from the universities of Warwick and Reading. She was awarded a DBE in the 2015 Birthday Honours List. Dame Nemats term will commence on 5 January 2016 and end on 4 January 2020.

These appointments have been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice. It is a requirement of the Code that political activity by those appointed is declared. Sir Paul Ruddock has declared making recordable donations to the Conservative Party for a number of years.
