Six Local Authorities receive funding for youth services

Six local authorities will receive government support for their youth services in round 2 of the Delivering Differently for Young People programme.

From the 23 local authorities that applied, the Cabinet Office selected 6. Each of the successful local authorities showed a commitment to finding new approaches to providing youth services in a more creative and innovative way.

The options that the local authorities are considering include:

  • spinning out services into staff-led mutuals find out more about starting a public service mutual
  • establishing independent youth trusts or joint ventures with private, voluntary and community sector organisations

The 6 local authorities that will receive a share of this years 200,000 programme funding are:

  • Brighton and Hove
  • Devon
  • Hartlepool
  • Lewisham
  • St Helens
  • Trafford

They will work closely with Cabinet Office to agree the support they need to implement a new youth service delivery model.

Minister for Civil Society, Rob Wilson, said:

This funding will help local authorities provide youth services in more effective ways, inspiring them to find better ways of delivering more within their budgets.
