Congratulations to Professor Sir Ian Chapman who will be presented with his knighthood at an Investiture at Windsor Castle today, on the same day as becoming a Fellow of the Royal Society.

Professor Sir Ian Chapman is one of eighty exceptional scientists to be elected as a Fellow for his substantial contribution to the advancement of science and he was made Knight Bachelor for his services to global fusion energy in the New Year Honours List 2023.

Commenting on this significant day, Professor Sir Ian Chapman said: I am extremely honoured to have been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society, which has coincided with a truly memorable occasion at Windsor Castle following celebrations for the Coronation of His Majesty The King.

These tremendous honours are reflective of the things we achieve together at UKAEA where a team of brilliant people are continuously pushing the boundaries of science and engineering as we strive towards making fusion energy part of the worlds future energy supply.

Fusion energy offers the potential of an abundant, inherently safe low-carbon electricity. It involves fusing hydrogen particles in a hot gas known as a plasma to unlock large amounts of energy.

Royal Society Fellows and Foreign Members join the ranks of Stephen Hawking, Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Lise 0Meitner, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar and Dorothy Hodgkin.

The New Year Honours are a part of the British honours system, with New Years Day, 1stJanuary, being marked by naming new members of orders of chivalry and recipients of other official honours.

Congratulations to Professor Sir Ian Ch
