Guidance: Adding Prevent for HE e-learning to a learning management system

Department For Education

March 3
09:00 2023

From 1 April 2023, the online SCORM files and tracked introduction training module will no longer be available for use. The offline SCORM file, in versions 1.2 and 2004, will continue to be available.

Tracking users when they complete their learning

If you add the e-learning module to your own learning management system (LMS), you will be able to track when users complete the learning.

Adding the e-learning module to your LMS

You will need to check which version of SCORM (offline or online) your LMS supports. You can embed the e-learning module to your LMS using the SCORM files.

An offline SCORM file is available in versions 1.2 and 2004. They will not automatically update and do not require an internet connection to complete.

The online SCORM files can be used until the 1 April 2023 when the assets will be removed.

Adding the e-learning module to your LMS will need to be done by someone in your institution who:

  • understands SCORM
  • has access to the administration area of your LMS

Creating your own e-learning module

The videos, files and text available in the Offline SCORM file are available to use under open government license. This means you can update, build-on or develop the SCORM to keep it up-to-date and relevant to your learners.

Alternatively, you can develop your own Prevent e-learning and report these figures to the Office for Students (OfS). Read the reporting Prevent training in HE guidance.

Other resources

If your institution does not have an LMS we recommend using the Home Offices free e-learning modules on Prevent. Certificates are issued once a learner completes the module. You should consider the best way your learners to share the certificate and for you to track completions across your setting.
