Guidance: Learn about the SIA grant for good causes

We receive money from our enforcement activity

The Proceeds of Crime Act allows us to:

  • investigate the financial activity of people who have committed a criminal offence
  • confiscate the proceeds of crime through a court-issued confiscation order this requires that the person pays back any money they have made through their criminal acts

We receive a portion of the money we recover through confiscation orders. This money can only be:

  • used to fund our financial investigation capability
  • distributed to good causes

This money helps the private security industry

We use some of the money we receive to support good causes that benefit the private security industry.

A grants committee decides how the money is allocated. The committee is comprised of SIA staff and representatives from the private security industry. It considers applications for funding at least once a year, and more if we receive additional money to distribute.

Who can apply for a grant?

You can apply for a grant if both of the following apply to you:

  • you are a registered charity or a community interest company
  • you can clearly demonstrate the positive impact of the grant on the UK private security industry as a whole and/or those currently or intending to work within it

We may, at our discretion, include additional and specific criteria for each round of funding. For example, we might ask for applications from a particular geographical area or type of project. We will publish details of any such additional criteria each time we open for applications.
