Supplier awards shortlist announced

Five categories remain the same as previous years, with a new award to recognise skills development:

  • capability and capacity
  • technology implementation
  • SME innovation
  • collaboration
  • exports
  • Ministers award, selected from all individual entries

The NDAs Ron Gorham, Chair of the judging panel, said:

The quality of entries for 2016 was extremely high and yet again we have been impressed with the dedication, creativity and impact made by the supply chain and also those other organisations that support them. Im looking forward to announcing the worthy winners and sharing with you some of their stories.

The winners will be announced to an audience of around 1,500 visitors at the NDA Estate Supply Chain Event on Thursday, 3 November, which takes place at EventCity in Manchester.

Capability and Capacity Award

Shortlist

  • Profile Security Services - Security Return To Work Scheme
  • DBD Ltd - SkillSearch programme (developing skills, enhancing capability and growing capacity)
  • Infrastructure Strategic Alliance (Morgan Sindall/Arup) - Developing the west Cumbrian economy and nuclear marketplace)
  • Stainless Metalcraft Ltd 100 years of training at Metalcraft

Technology/Innovation Implementation Award

Shortlist:

  • OC Robotics/TWI Ltd/Sellafield - LaserSnake: size reduction of a dissolver vessel within the First Generation Reprocessing Plant at Sellafield
  • Design Services Alliance: Progressive Alliance/Sellafield with Ansaldo NES - Magnox Swarf Storage Silo (Silo Emptying Plant 3) redesign and implementation
  • NNL/Fauske & Associates/Sellafield Magnox Swarf Storage Silo reactive materials, a paradigm shift in the management of nuclear waste
  • PacTec/Sellafield - Reduction of operator radiation exposure utilising PacTec flexible packaging for the removal of legacy pond ILW
  • James Fisher Nuclear Ltd/Sellafield - removal of deflector plate assembly from Pile Fuel Cladding Silo supported by Shepley Engineers, BHR and Mirion Technologies
  • Infrastructure Strategic Alliance: (Morgan Sindall/Arup)/Sellafield below ground drainage maintenance via pipe bursting techniques

SME Innovation Award

Shortlist

  • Omniflex new product development for replacing the entire radiological monitoring system & associated instrumentation, within an active handling facility whilst maintaining 100% plant availability
  • DBD Ltd - Sellafield Site Resilience Project

Collaboration Award

Shortlist

  • Centre for Leadership Dream Placement: bringing together young students and forward-looking businesses in Cumbria
  • Nucleargraduates organisation - Nucleargraduates development programme working with sponsors and a wide range of secondment host organisations
  • ACKtiv Nuclear (joint venture of Jacobs, Atkins, Carillion) a long-term collaboration working as an integrated team on the First Generation Magnox Storage Pond retrievals project with Shepley Engineers Ltd and Sellafield:
  • TSP Engineering working with SMEs to support the Magnox Swarf Storage Silo refurbishment of packages and gamma gates
  • M + W with Oxford Technologies, Sanderson-Watts Associates and 3T Safety Consultants - Dounreay Shaft and Silo retrievals design and safety case building partnerships
  • Sellafield Supply Chain - Nuclear Safety Working Group bring suppliers together to increase nuclear safety awareness across the Sellafield supply chain and beyond

Export Award

  • Nuvia - Ignalina spent fuel store, Lithuania (design, manufacture, installation and testing of fuel handling equipment)
  • Hargreaves Ductwork Ltd Chernobyl new safe confinement (provision of ventilation systems)
  • Oxford Technologies - fuel debris retrieval project at Fukushima Daiichi
