NHS Improvement Chief Executive Jim Mackey has welcomed the announcement by Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that they have decided to enter into a long-term partnership with Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Sherwood Forest which provides services for patients at Kings Mill, Newark and Mansfield Community hospitals as well as at Ashfield Health Village was rated inadequate in October 2015 by the Care Quality Commission after having been in special measures for over two years.
Since the report in October, Monitor has been supporting Sherwood to make improvements required by the CQC. It has also been working with the trust to support it in identifying a long-term partner.
Similar successful efforts at trusts including Wexham Park Hospital, have led to improvements in the quality of services. Wexham went from inadequate to good in just over a year.
