Following extensive engagement, the Maritime & Coastguard Agencys Survey and Inspection Transformation Programme was given the green light earlier today to implement the proposed changes to the grades and terms and conditions of Marine Surveyors.

This is a significant moment for the Survey and Inspection business and presents the Directorate of Maritime Safety and Standards (DMSS) with the mandate from staff to move forward in a positive and constructive manner in support of the MCA.

Katy Ware, Director of Maritime Safety and Standards said,

It has taken a huge amount of effort to get us to this position. The engagement process was lengthy and wide reaching in order to connect with all those this decision would affect. As a result of this engagement, 91% of Prospect members voted in the ballot and 87% of those accepted our proposed changes.

I feel strongly that together in collaboration with the TUS, we can now transform our business in order to deliver and enhance the valuable service we provide to our customers.

The Survey and Inspection Transformation Programme (S&ITP) began its engagement with Trade Union representatives in March 2015. During April 2016, the MCA consulted both its internal workforce and external stakeholders on elements of the proposals for the S&ITP, including the changes to the Marine Office locations.
