As the roll-out schedule for ordering inshore vessel monitoring system (I-VMS) devices enters its third and final phase, fishers with 6-12m vessels are reminded to take advantage of the grant funding by 30 November.

There are 22 ports included in Phase 3, which runs from Monday 23 October to 30 November.

Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is urging any fishers with over six metre vessels yet to organise an I-VMS device to follow its guidance to order a device and take advantage of funding of up to 1,050 per vessel, by the 30 November deadline, before the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund closes.

Since our last update, MMO has confirmed that 50% of the over six metre inshore fleet has now purchased a device, with many ports reporting over 75% of their fleet placing orders. Over 90% of fishers placing orders have claimed their grants and 400,000 has been paid out, with most payments made within 3-5 working days - if not sooner.

Anyone who delays arranging installation outside of the dates for their port should expect to wait until later in the roll-out programme for their device to be installed, but that shouldnt stop them from placing an order.

Peter Clark, MMOs Director of Operations said:

Were in the final phase of the roll-out with just six weeks to go before the funding deadline. Its crucial that fishers act right now and order a device if they are to take advantage of the funding.

Its positive to see half of the over six metre fleet has ordered devices for their vessels, but there is a time limit to this funding and there are still too many owners taking the risk of having to pick up the full cost.

Our dedicated I-VMS support team, our grants team and the suppliers are there to offer guidance. Please do contact them as soon as possible if you have any questions.

MMO has confirmed it expects the Statutory Instrument to come into force in April 2024.

An announcement on plans for the under-six-metre fleet is expected in due course.
