Second Permanent Secretary with responsibility for borders and immigration appointed

Mr Robbins will have responsibility for immigration and free movement policy, and oversight of the borders, immigration and citizenship system. He was previously Director General for Civil Service Reform at the Cabinet Office.

Home Secretary Theresa May said:

I am delighted to welcome Oliver Robbins to the Home Office as Second Permanent Secretary. Ollys wealth of experience of working in high profile, challenging roles across government will be invaluable.

Permanent Secretary Mark Sedwill said:

Im very pleased that Olly Robbins is joining the Home Office. Im looking forward to working with Olly as we deliver the Departments priorities to secure the UK border, control immigration and welcome the Syrian refugees we are resettling in the UK.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Robbins said:

Im delighted to be joining the Home Office and to be working on some of the governments top priorities. I look forward to joining the team driving the response to borders and immigration challenges within the Home Office and across government.

His appointment has been approved by the Prime Minister, in consultation with the Home Secretary.
