The Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA) requires that persons using animals in science have appropriate knowledge and training.

This guidance for training and continuous professional development (CPD) sets clear standards and promotes continuous improvementto ensure individuals using animals in science have the necessary skills and competence.

It will replace section 9 of the 2014 Guidance on the Operation of ASPA, once in force.

This guidance was laid before both Houses of Parliament on 12 July 2023 for a period of 40 days, during which time either House may pass a resolution requiring that the guidance be withdrawn. If no such resolution is passed, the guidance will come into force on 24 October 2023.

The explanatory memorandum was laid alongside the guidance.
