Highways England is staging a public exhibition and drop-in day next month (September) to display proposals for works which will boost safety for pedestrians and cyclists - as well as local drivers - for the section between Haverthwaite railway station and Lane Ends junction. Improving the connectivity of communities separated by the road is also a key aim of the work.

Among the options Highways England is hoping to explore at the event which is taking place on Tuesday 15 September at Outback Hall, Haverthwaite between 2.30pm and 7pm is changing the road layout and installing a new foot and cycle bridge.

Highways England asset development manager Jonathan Reade said:

We acknowledge local peoples concerns about the safety of crossing this particular stretch of the A590. Over the last couple of years we have been working with local parish, district and county councillors to look at the issue in detail and come up with some ideas for solutions. We urge anyone with an interest in the issue come to talk to us at next months drop-in session.
