The following list of standards were published by the European Standardisation Organisation, CEN, during the period July to November 2016, some of which are relevant to chemical measurement in support of regulation.

EN 16170:2016 - Sludge, treated biowaste and soil - Determination of elements using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES).

EN 16171:2016 - Sludge, treated biowaste and soil - Determination of elements using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS)

These European Standards specify methods for the determination of certain elements in aqua regia or nitric acid digests of sludge, treated biowaste and soil. The detection limit range for the elements being determined is between 0.1 mg/kg and 2.0 mg/kg on a dry matter basis.

EN 16175-1:2016 - Sludge, treated biowaste and soil - Determination of mercury - Part 1: Cold-vapour atomic absorption spectrometry (CV-AAS).

EN 16175-2:2016 - Sludge, treated biowaste and soil - Determination of mercury - Part 2: Cold-vapour atomic fluorescence spectrometry (CV-AFS).

These European Standards specify methods for the determination of mercury in aqua regia or nitric acid digests of sludge, treated biowaste and soil. The detection limit using CV-AAS is 0.03 mg/kg and for CV-AFS 0.003 mg/kg on a dry matter basis.

EN 15308:2016 - Characterization of waste - Determination of selected polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) in solid waste by gas chromatography with electron capture or mass spectrometric detection.

This European Standard specifies a method for quantitative determination of seven polychlorinated biphenyl congeners (PCB-28, PCB-52, PCB-101, PCB-118, PCB-138, PCB-153 and PCB-180) in solid waste including soil, sludge and treated bio-waste. The detection limit is ? 0.01 mg/kg for individual PCB congeners on a dry matter basis.

EN ISO 3924:2016 - Petroleum products - Determination of boiling range distribution - Gas chromatography method (ISO 3924:2106).

This International Standard specifies a method for the determination of the boiling range distribution of petroleum products (excluding gasoline samples or gasoline components) in the range 55 to 538 C at atmospheric pressure. The method has successfully been applied to samples containing fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) up to 10 % (V/V).
