Guidance: River Thames: restrictions and closures

Due to the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency, some of our services will be restricted until further notice.

Before boating on the River Thames, you should check the current river conditions.

When Where Whats happening
Until further notice Canal Bridge, Radcot A vehicle has damaged Canal Bridge, where Radcot Road A4095 crosses the River Thames. Please be cautious of falling debris if navigating near the bridge.
Until further notice Boulters Lock Gates on the pedestal side do not open fully. Width of the tail gates is restricted to no more than 5.5 metres (18). Please use caution when entering and exiting the lock.

Wednesday 7 June to Wednesday 14 June 2023 River Kennet, Forbury Loop Reading Water Fest 2023: the Forbury Loop will be closed to all boats other than those participating in the Reading Water Fest.

Until further notice Cookham reach Cookham Bridge Obstruction 2023: river restriction notice: a large tree is blocking the second bridge arch on the left looking upstream.
Monday 20 March to Monday 12 June 2023 Henley reach Henley Royal Regatta course construction 2023: boats travelling downstream should navigate on the left hand side of the river within the regatta course. Boats travelling upstream should navigate on the right hand side of the river.
Friday 5 May to Monday 31 July 2023 Abingdon reach Nuneham Railway Viaduct southern bridge abutment repairs 2023: during this time there will be a restricted river under the southern arch.
Sunday 28 May and Sunday 9 July 2023, 6am to 11am Marlow reach One on the River Triathlon 2023: the navigation channel will be on the left, Windsor and Maidenhead, side of the the river.
Saturday 3 June 2023 9:30am to 4:30pm Sunbury reach Sunbury Skiff Club Head and Desborough Challenge 2023: the navigation channel will be around the old river channel at Shepperton.
Saturday 10 June 2023 8am to 5:30pm Mapledurham reach Charity Dragon Boat Racing Pangbourne 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Whitchurch on Thames, right hand side of the river.
Saturday 10 June 2023 10:30am to 6:30pm Iffley reach Oriel Regatta 2023: there will be a navigation channel on the right, non-towpath side of the river suitable for small craft. Larger craft will travel along the race course in between races.
Saturday 10 June and Sunday 11 June 2023 9am to 7pm Caversham reach Reading Amateur Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the right or north, non-towpath side of the river.
Sunday 11 June 2023 6am to 9:45am Romney reach Human Race Windsor Triathlon 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Eton, North, right side of the river.
Sunday 11 June 2023 10am to 2pm Teddington reach Royal Canoe Club Royal Marathon 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Surrey, left hand side of the river.
Monday 12 June to Tuesday 27 June 2023 Henley reach Henley Royal Regatta practice and Henley Womens Regatta 2023: during these dates no boats other than rowing racing boats can navigate within the Regatta course or crew warm up area.
Saturday 17 June 2023 8am to 4pm Teddington reach Thames Ditton Skiff and Punting Club Centenary Flotilla 2023: the navigation channel will be on the right hand, Hampton Court, Middlesex side of the river.
Saturday 17 June and Sunday 18 June 2023 8am to 5pm Sunbury reach Sunbury and Walton Sea Cadets Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Surrey, left hand side of the river.
Sunday 18 June 2023 8am to 7pm Dreadnought reach Thames Valley Park Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the right, non-towpath side of the river.
Saturday 24 June 2023 7am to 7:45am Marsh reach Wargrave Sprint Triathlon 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Oxfordshire, Shiplake side of the river.
Saturday 24 June 2023 8am to 7pm Dreadnought reach Reading Town Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the right, non-towpath side of the river.
Saturday 24 June 2023 8am to 8pm Whitchurch reach The Thames 200 Triathlon 2023: the navigation channel will be on the right, east side of the river.
Sunday 25 June 2023 4am to 7am Henley reach Henley Classic Swim 2023: during this time no boats can navigate within the Henley Royal Regatta course booms.
Sunday 25 June 2023 8am to 5pm Sunbury reach Sunbury and Walton Sea Cadets 2nd Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Surrey, left hand side of the river.
Sunday 25 June 2023 10am to 3pm Iffley and Sandford reaches
