The Home Office Counting Rules are currently under review and a summarised version of the rules will be posted as soon as they are finalised.

The Home Office Counting Rules provide a national standard for the recording and counting of notifiable offences recorded by police forces in England and Wales (known as recorded crime).

  1. The Home Office Counting Rules are currently under review and a summarised version of the rules will be posted as soon as they are finalised.

  2. General Rules Section G - Location of Crimes has been expanded

  3. Some amendments to the April 2022 Counting Rules were made in July 2022. These are highlighted in yellow in the main document. There is also a separate document listing the updates; and the Counting Rules notifiable offence list has been updated.
