We are seeking views on revisions to the national networks national policy statement (NNNPS). The NNNPS covers the strategic road and rail networks and strategic rail freight interchanges (SRFIs).
The NNNPS needs to be reviewed to ensure that it remains fit for purpose in supporting the governments commitments for appropriate development of infrastructure for strategic road, rail and rail freight interchanges.
The current NNNPS was designated in 2014. The principal purpose of this consultation is to identify whether the draft revised national policy statement presented is fit for purpose. This means whether it provides a suitable framework to support decision making for nationally significant infrastructure road, rail and strategic rail freight interchange projects.
This consultation also seeks views on the following, which have been carried out in relation to the draft NNNPS:
- appraisal of sustainability
- habitats regulations assessment
