Open call for evidence: Extending the emission control area to all UK waters

Department For Transport

January 9
10:00 2024

This call for evidence seeks views and evidence on the potential to either:

  • extend the existing North Sea emission control area (ECA) to all UK waters
  • establish a further, geographically distinct ECA along Northern Ireland and the west coast of Great Britain
  • further limit and reduce air pollutant emissions from ships

We invite you to suggest which, if any, UK waters should be designated as an ECA, detail the scope of any future ECA or identify alternatives to further reduce air pollutant emissions. We are particularly interested in any supporting evidence that can be provided to support your assessment.
