These reforms build on the commitments made in the teacher recruitment and retention strategy and the early career framework, announced in January 2019.

  1. The 'National professional qualifications (NPQs)' has been updated to clarify the eligibility criteria for national professional qualifications. NPQ participants can now be matched against Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) records without their name as recorded on the TRA.

  2. Removed information about participants undertaking NPQs prior to 2021 from 'National professional qualifications (NPQs)'.

  3. Updates have been made to 'National professional qualifications (NPQs)' to clarify information on NPQ providers and how to apply for an NPQ.

  4. The 'NPQ for Early Years Leadership (NPQEYL)' in the 'Funding' section of 'National professional qualifications (NPQs)' has been updated to clarify the scholarship criteria for participants working in early years settings in independent schools that offer free entitlements places.

  5. 'Funding' section of 'National professional qualifications (NPQs)' updated to make it clearer who is eligible for funding for NPQs, including advice for initial teacher training lead mentors.

  6. Added links to NPQs available.

  7. Updates made to include new providers and NPQs available.

  8. Updated to reflect changes to NPQs and added a spreadsheet of 16 to 19 organisations eligible for targeted support funding.

  9. Updated to reflect the temporary closure of the national professional qualifications registration service and with further information about funding eligibility.

  10. We have updated the guidance to clarify that the funding covers the training aspect of the qualifications and that NPQ participants who withdraw from a qualification cannot receive a scholarship for the same qualification at a later date. We have also updated the 'Apply for an NPQ' section to reflect that interested participants can register for an email alert.

  11. Updated to clarify the difference between state-funded schools and state-funded organisations offering 16 to 19 places.

  12. Updated to reflect changes in funding eligibility and add information about additional national professional qualifications which will be available from autumn 2022.

  13. Updated to include information on our funding approach, pre-market engagement notice and NPQ scholarship funding eligibility list.
