The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has appointed Dr Michael Grenfell to its board as the new Executive Director for Enforcement.

The appointment will see Michael lead front-line delivery of the CMAs work on Competition Act cases, criminal cartels and consumer enforcement.

Michael is currently Senior Director for Sector Regulation and Concurrency at the CMA. He brings to the role 25 years experience as a competition lawyer in leading City and international law firms.

Business Secretary Sajid Javid said:

I am pleased to announce that Michael will be bringing his wealth of experience in competition law to the CMA Board. The CMA plays a vital role in allowing dynamic competition to flourish in the interest of consumers and businesses across the country.

Michael will work closely with other regulatory and enforcement bodies both in the UK and internationally, including consumer bodies, academics, consultants in the legal, economic and business community.

The CMA is an independent non-ministerial government department with responsibility for carrying out investigations into mergers, markets and the regulated industries and enforcing competition and consumer law.
