The roll-out of inshore vessel monitoring system (I-VMS) devices has restarted, ahead of legal requirements coming into force in Spring 2024.
Fishers purchasing an I-VMS device can claim grant funding of up to 1,050 per vessel by the 18 December 2023, and before the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund closes.??
Any fishers yet to organise an I-VMS device for their vessel should act now by following the steps on the guidance pages for 6-12m vessels and under-6m vessels. Anyone who delays arranging installation risks not having an active device in place when the new legislation comes into force, expected in April 2024.
Approved Devices
The following tracking devices have passed the MMO I-VMS type approval process, by meeting the I-VMS device specification of requirements. All products have undergone evaluation under the I-VMS approval process and are expected to last for at least five years provided they are handled appropriately. All of these products have been designed in order to be suitable for vessels with or without on-board power.
At this stage we recommend fishers consider the suitability of each device for the vessel and their business, including any warranties, support services, costs and payment plans that suppliers may offer. When the time comes to purchase a device the contract will be between the fisher and supplier.
