Press release: Interim Chief of CPS Inspectorate announced

Anthony Rogers, currently Deputy Chief Inspector at HMCPSI since 2020, will replace HM Chief Inspector Andrew Cayley CMG KC who will serve his final day in post on 26 February.

This interim appointment will commence on 27 February 2024 and the process to find a permanent postholder will be launched in Spring.

Attorney General Rt Hon Victoria Prentis KC MP said:

HMCPSI plays a vital role in driving improvements across the justice system, especially for victims, so I am pleased to welcome Anthony to this role.

He becomes Chief Inspector at a fascinating time, and I am confident his extensive inspection and leadership experience will stand him in good stead to successfully lead HMCPSI. I look forward to working with him.

I would also like to thank Andrew Cayley for all his work as Chief Inspector during the past three years. It has been a pleasure working with him and his leadership of HMCPSI has been greatly valued. I wish him all the best.

Between 2018 and 2020, Anthony was Head of Inspection at HMCPSI, managing the inspectors and being responsible for the delivery of inspection programmes.

Anthony joined HMCPSI in 2003 as a business inspector, leading numerous CPS Area inspections, thematic inspections, and joint inspections. Anthony was a member of the inspectorates management board and while being a lead inspector, was responsible for joint inspection and the HMCPSI audit team.

Anthony also has extensive experience outside the Civil Service as a management consultant and non-executive director.
