Revision note:On 25 April 2024, the DCMS-sponsored museums and galleries annual performance indicators 2022/23 report was revised after an error was identified in the commentary. Section 2.3 of the report contained figures for 2021/22 and this has now been updated to the latest 2022/23 figures. Data included in the rest of the report and in the accompanying data tables is not affected by this change.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) sponsors 15 national museums which provide free entry to their permanent collections. This release presents the annual performance indicator data collected by DCMS-sponsored museums and galleries for the financial year 2022/23.

The pre-release access document contains a list of ministers and officials who have received privileged early access to this release of Sponsored Museums: Performance Indicators. In line with best practice, the list has been kept to a minimum and those given access for briefing purposes had a maximum of 24 hours.
