Disclosure and Barring Service

October 25
12:38 2017

New ID checking guidelines are being introduced on 24 October 2017. These guidelines will apply to all applications for standard or enhanced checks.

The new guidelines will run in parallel with the existing guidelines from 24 October 2017 to 25 January 2018, when the existing guidelines will cease to apply.

We appreciate that youll need to make changes to relevant literature and inform your customers. Therefore, you can start using the new guidance from 24 October 2017, but have 3 months to transition fully to the new guidance.

The enhancement is being introduced so that DBSs identity checking process is aligned with right to work checks. These state that employers must prevent illegal working in the UK by carrying out document checks on people before employing them to make sure they are allowed to work.
