OPSS launches new online product safety campaign
New resources launched to raise awareness of unsafe products sold online.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has launched a new campaign to raise awareness of unsafe products sold online.

Ahead of Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the Christmas sales season, OPSS is warning that even well-known and trusted online marketplaces sometimes list unsafe products. The public is being urged to pause and carry out simple checks before purchasing.

These include checking the seller’s details, looking for UKCA or CE marks and looking for verified purchase reviews that might mention safety issues.

OPSS will be targeting 16–25-year-olds across social media platforms in the campaign’s first phase before Christmas. This age group is more likely to make frequent impulse purchases but is also highly influenced by social media.

The campaign messaging will target older age groups in early 2026.
