Court of Protection visitors report independently to the Public Guardian and theCourt of Protection. They help in the Public Guardians role of:
- supervising deputies
- investigating concerns about the actions of a deputy or attorney
Depending on the circumstances, a report may be released:
- to people a visitor has interviewed while preparing a report (at the Public Guardians discretion)
- to people or organisations included in a Public Guardian application to the court
- to the police or a local authority involved in an investigation
- after a request for personal information under the Data Protection Act (known as a subject access request)
- with the courts permission, if it ordered the report
