The Prime Minister has appointed Sir Charles Dunstone to the Board of Trustees of Royal Museums Greenwich for a period of four years, beginning on 21st November 2013.
Sir Charles was elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees at their subsequent meeting.
Biographical details/ experience
Sir Charles Dunstone is a successful executive in the telecommunications and media sectors. He holds a number of executive and non- executive directorships, including the Chairmanship of Carphone Warehouse, the company he founded in 1989, and of TalkTalk one of the largest telecommunications businesses in the UK.
The Charles Dunstone Charitable Trust has awarded grants of over 11M since 2006 to fund programmes to reach some of the most vulnerable children, young people and communities. Sir Charles has been a Trustee of the Princes Trust since 2000 and its Chairman since 2010.
In June 2012, he received a Knighthood for services to the telecommunications industry and his charitable work.
Organisation
Royal Museums Greenwich illustrates for everyone the importance of the sea, ships, time and the stars. The Museum is sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), and it was established by the National Maritime Museum Act 1934. It operates at arms length from the Government and is governed by the Board Trustees.The appointment process has followed the OCPA Code of Practice and is in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations.
