EDF Energy has today been granted planning consent to construct a new gas power plant in Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire.
Energy and Climate Change Minister Lord Bourne approved the development, which during construction will bring around 1,500 jobs to the area, with around 50 permanent positions once operational.
The station will produce up to 1800MW of electricity and will be capable of operating continuously throughout the year for up to 35 years.

- Having had planning consent granted, EDF now need to make a final investment decision.
- If built, construction of the site is likely to take between 28-36 months, with a start date yet to be determined.
- Combined-cycle power plants use gas and steam turbines together, producing up to 50 per cent more electricity from the same fuel than a simple-cycle power plant. Waste heat from the gas turbine is routed to a nearby steam turbine, generating extra power.
