Guidance: Student loan cancellation - if a customer dies

You can call or write to the Student Loans Company (SLC) to tell them about someone who has died.

Evidence youll need to send

Youll need to tell SLC the Customer Reference Number of the person who has died and send one of the following:

  • original death certificate
  • original coroners interim certificate
  • copy of coroners certificate stamped by the coroner
  • copy of a foreign death certificate

SLC cannot cancel any loans without evidence.
