International Nurses’ Day celebrates everything that’s good about nurses and nursing. In the UK, the Royal College of Nursing leads the event and this year is asking people from all walks of life, up and down the country, to tell them why they love nurses.
Mr Cameron said that from his own personal experience he had seen that nurses are the “beating heart” of the National Health Service and when nursing is good, the care is good.
The PM said:
It’s simple: it is the quality of nursing that determines the quality of care. That is why we want to give our nurses much greater freedom and power to take control of what is happening on their wards…and use their compassion, expertise and knowledge without being second-guessed.
It’s right that today we should all take a moment to show our nurses just how much we value them
And I hope as many people as possible will join me in signing the Nurses Day Pledge to show their support today.
