Ryder Cup victory: PM congratulations
David Cameron sent a message of congratulations to Ryder Cup winning captain Paul McGinley.

The Prime Minister said:

I wish to pass on my congratulations to you and the European team on retaining the Ryder Cup.

An eighth time Ryder Cup win in the last 10 competitions is a remarkable achievement and your skilful leadership, along with that of your vice-captains, clearly inspired that victory.

The performances of the 12-man European team at Gleneagles kept us all enthralled across the 3 days of competition. Their achievements, once again, showed that sport can transcend boundaries and keep both sport and non-sport lovers engaged.

Could I ask that you pass on my thanks to the team, as well as your vice-captains.

A magnificent performance. Well done to one and all.
