Rt Hon Damian Green MP the new minister of state for policing and criminal justice uses his first speech to address police and crime commissioner candidates and tells them they will be elected to cut crime and give the public a voice at the highest level.
He used the opportunity to set out the progress the government has made on police reform and calls the elections of police and crime commissioners as ‘the most significant democratic reform of policing in our lifetime’.
National response to policing
Damian Green also used his speech to commend the police for their contribution to delivering a safe and secure Olympic and Paralympic Games, and reminded PCC candidates that this was an example of the police coming together to police a national event whilst still working locally to protect communities and fight crime.
