Stephen Morris

Head of Evaluation & Insight, Public Service Transformation Network

This free seminar explored the main approaches taken in the UK to understanding and describing the impact of interventions and programmes.

Stephen began with a review of study designs adopting a counterfactual approach – particularly Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs). He then discussed some of the limitations of these approaches and highlight when and where they are most effectively deployed.

Finally, Stephen reviewed theory-based approaches as alternatives, including realist methods, and also suggest circumstances where these methods may be preferable.
