Details

The Parole Board has updated its policy and guidance regarding the digital recording of proceedings. Digital recording of parole proceedings ensures that the Parole Board is fully compliant with its legal obligations, as laid out by the High Courts judgment in McIntyre, handed down in July 2013.

The latest version of the guidance now reflects:

  • The 2019 Rules (as amended)
  • That the Board now digitally records case management conferences and directions hearings, as well as oral hearings (proceedings)
  • Current information about using the technology and storing recordings
  • Recording streamed proceedings
  • Expanded section on victims

We have also revised the published guidance for the parties on requesting a transcript of the proceedings which sets out the criteria we use and the process that needs to be followed. There is also a simple flowchart with the key steps involved.

Flow chart for requesting a transcript

Please note that where all or part of a hearing has not been digitally recorded, the panel chairs notes may be produced in place of a transcript.
