Open call for evidence: Volumetric concrete mixers review

Department For Transport

October 18
23:01 2023

A volumetric concrete mixer (VCM) is a type of construction lorry used to carry all components needed for concrete to be mixed on construction sites. VCMs are also known as mobile concrete batching plants in the industry.

This call for evidence will help the Department for Transport (DfT) consider if there is evidence to justify amending the current policy approach to weight limits for VCMs.

We are calling for views from individuals, groups and organisations with a specific interest in roadworthiness assurance. For example:

  • vehicle operators or leasers
  • vehicle manufacturers and their dealerships
  • organisations or individuals that maintain vehicles
  • trade bodies representing those in the construction sector
  • motorists and other road users
  • road safety organisations
  • local transport and highways authorities
  • road enforcement organisations

We are proposing 3 potential options to be considered in relation to the weight increases for VCMs. We also invite respondees to identify any other options and provide supporting evidence where possible.
