The adjustments to right to work checks introduced on 30 March 2020 because of coronavirus (COVID-19), will end on 30 September 2022.

From 1 October 2022, employers must carry out the prescribed checks as set out in right to work checks guidance.

This checklist explains the types of documents that are acceptable for checking an employees right to work and how long the check is valid for.

If youre reasonably satisfied that the worker has an outstanding application with the Home Office that was made before their previous leave expired or has an outstanding appeal against a Home Office decision, you can get a Positive Verification Notice from the Employer Checking Service.
