Details

The Advocate General is seeking to appoint around 5 Junior Counsel to join the panel of Standing Junior Counsel to the Advocate General for Scotland. Appointments will run until 10 September 2024.

Further appointments are needed to increase the existing panels capacity in relation to the defence of personal injury claims. These actions are conducted on behalf of the Office of the Advocate General (OAG) by a framework panel of legal firms and successful appointees will be expected to take instructions from these firms. Applications are invited in particular from suitably qualified advocates or solicitor advocates with experience of personal injury law or a willingness to undertake this work.

The work of a Standing Junior is varied and those appointed will have the opportunity to undertake interesting work for a range of UK Government Departments including Home Office, Her Majestys Revenue and Customs, Ministry of Defence, and the Department for Work and Pensions. Both advisory and litigation work will be required, however availability for appearance work is an essential requirement for appointment.
