RAIB is investigating an accident in which a member of the public who had alighted from a northbound tram at David Lane tram stop, was later struck by another tram on the off-street section of the NET system between David Lane and Basford tram stops. The accident occurred at around 22:57 hrs on 15 August 2016 and the person sustained fatal injuries.

Prior to the accident, there had been reports of a person on the tracks between the tram stops and arrangements made for trams in the vicinity to be warned of this.

Our investigation will examine the sequence of events leading up to the accident, the way in which information about the presence of the person on the tracks was handled and any relevant management issues.

Our investigation is independent of any investigation by the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) or the police.

We will publish our findings, including any recommendations to improve safety, at the conclusion of our investigation. This report will be available on our website.
