This analysis details the number and characteristics of hospital admissions in the last year of life for people aged 75 years and older who died in 2017, using data from the annual mortality extract, Office for National Statistics (ONS), Crown copyright 2020, and Hospital Episode Statistics (HES), NHS Digital Copyright 2020, Re-used with the permission of NHS Digital. All rights reserved.

This report provides information of number and length of hospital admissions, by:

  • age
  • sex
  • cause of death

The supporting data provides the underlying data summaries used for all tables and figures in the document.
