The Government has confirmed a number of appointments to the BBC Trust the governing body of the BBC.
These appointments are made by Her Majesty The Queen by Order in Council, on advice from Ministers at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) through the Prime Minister.
- Sir Roger Carr is to be appointed as the Vice-Chair of the BBC Trust for the period beginning on 1 May 2015 and ending on 30 April 2019.
- Mark Damazer to be appointed as the ordinary member of the BBC Trust for the period beginning on 1 April 2015 and ending on 31 March 2019.
- Mark Florman to be appointed as the ordinary member of the BBC Trust and Trustee for England for the period beginning on 1 April 2015 and ending on 31 March 2019.
Sir Roger Carr is currently Chairman of BAE Systems Plc. He has held a number of senior roles in British businesses, including as CEO of Williams Plc; and Chairman of Thames Water (1998-2000), Mitchells & Butler (2002-2008) and Cadbury (2008-2013). He was Deputy Chairman of the Bank of England (2007-2014); President of the CBI (2011-2013), and Chairman of Centrica Plc (2004-2013). Sir Roger was knighted for Services to Business in 2011. He is a member of the Prime Ministers Business Advisory Group and a senior advisor to private equity company KKR.
Mark Damazer is currently Master of St Peters College, Oxford. He was Controller of BBC Radio 4 and 4 Extra (2004-2010). He began his career as a trainee at ITN, before joining the BBC World Service in 1981. He worked at TV-AM returning to the BBC, where he held various posts in BBC News including Head of Current Affairs (1996-1998); Head of Political Programmes (1998-2000) and Deputy Director of BBC News (2000-2004). He is a Trustee of Victoria and Albert Museum. He was previously Vice-Chair of the International Press Institute.
Mark Florman was the co-founder and CEO of the merchant banking firm Maizels Westerberg. He has held a range of senior roles including as co-founder and Managing Partner of 8 Miles LLP (2008-2011); Managing Director of European private equity firm Doughty Hanson & Co (2001-2008); Chairman of LM Glasfiber (2003-2006); and Chief Executive of the British Venture Capital Association (2011-2013). He is currently the Chairman of The Centre for Social Justice, which he co-founded in 2004 and of the advisory firm Spayne Lindsay LLP. In 2011, he co-founded The Legacy List to drive community development in Stratford following the London 2012 Olympics. In 2014, Mark Florman was a member of the G8 Social Impact Investment taskforce and the Triennial Review Group for the Big Lottery Fund.
