Ofqual is today (15 August) announcing changes to its senior management team as a new phase in the reform of vocational qualifications begins. Todays changes follow the announcement of the governments vision for technical education in the recent Skills Plan, based on the work of Lord Sainsburys independent panel and the creation of the Institute for Apprenticeships.

Jeremy Benson, Executive Director for Vocational Qualifications, has decided to leave the organisation after nearly 6 years to pursue other opportunities. Jeremy has been with Ofqual since soon after it began regulating in 2010, and has taken the decision to move on as one phase of reform concludes and another begins. Phil Beach was today appointed interim Executive Director.

Sally Collier, Chief Regulator, said:

I would like to thank Jeremy for the significant contribution he has made to establishing Ofqual and the groundwork done in preparation for the important reforms being made by government to the vocational qualifications landscape and our role in regulating it. We all wish him well for the future. We have begun the process of identifying a replacement. In the interim, Phil Beach, Director of Strategic Relationships, will lead our vocational qualifications directorate.

Notes

Jeremy Benson joined Ofqual in October 2010 as Director of Strategic Management and became Executive Director in 2014. He previously worked at the Department for Education.

Phil Beach CBE is Ofquals Director of Strategic Relationships for General Qualifications. He joined Ofqual in January 2015.
