Change your university, college or course details

You may need to update your university, college or course details if you change your mind about where or what you want to study, or if your circumstances change after clearing. Follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your online account at www.gov.uk/student-finance-register-login
  2. Click Undergraduate student finance applications
  3. Select the application you wish to change
  4. Under the heading Manage your student finance, click View and manage your applications
  5. Click Change your application
  6. Click Change your application again
  7. Click University/college and course

If youre asked to upload evidence for your student finance application

You should only upload evidence to your online account if weve asked you to do so, otherwise it could delay your application. Follow these steps to upload evidence to your account:

  1. Sign in to your online account at www.gov.uk/student-finance-register-login
  2. Click Undergraduate student finance applications
  3. Select the application you wish to upload evidence for
  4. Under the heading Manage your student finance, click Upload supporting evidence
  5. Follow the instructions to upload a file from your computer or mobile phone, the file cannot be larger than 16MB

Cancel a student finance application

You may need to cancel your application if youve changed your mind about going to university or college, or if youve accidentally completed the wrong type of application.

To cancel your application, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your online account at www.gov.uk/student-finance-register-login
  2. Click Undergraduate student finance applications
  3. Select the application you wish to cancel
  4. Under the heading Manage your student finance, click View and manage your applications
  5. Click Cancel your application
  6. Click Cancel your application again to confirm

If youve already registered on your course and want to cancel your student finance application, youll need to contact your university or college to do this for you.

Registering on your course

You need to register/enrol on your course at the start of your first term each year, otherwise we wont be able to send you any payments!

Check your university or colleges website or contact a member of staff who works there for information on how to register or enrol on your course. Usually, you can do this online without having to visit your college or university.

Update your bank details in your online account

Its important to keep your bank details up to date to make sure you get your payments at the start of each term. A few points to remember before updating them:

  • we can only make payments to a UK bank or building society account
  • the account must be in your own name we cannot make payments into third party accounts under any circumstance
  • if youre expecting a payment - we require 4 working days notice to change your bank details so that the payment is made to your new bank account. Any changes made within this time will not take effect before the payment is due

Its quick and easy to update them online when you need to, just follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your online account at www.gov.uk/student-finance-register-login
  2. Click Your personal details from the menu at the top of the page
  3. Next to Bank account details, click Change
  4. Confirm your old bank or building society details for security
  5. Enter your new bank or building society account details

Check your payment schedule and amounts

To help you budget and prepare for your next payment, it will help to know how much and when youre getting paid. You can check this in your online account, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your online account at www.gov.uk/student-finance-register-login
  2. Click Undergraduate student finance applications
  3. Select the application for the payments you wish to check
  4. Under the heading Manage your student finance, click View your payments

Support a student finance application with your household income details

If youre the parent or partner of a student, you may be asked to provide details of your household income so we can calculate how much student finance theyre entitled to.

You should receive an email request when your child or partner applies, just follow the instructions in the email to support their application. Otherwise, you can provide your information online through your own online account when you need to, just follow these steps:

  1. Sign in or create an online account at www.gov.uk/student-finance-register-login
  2. Under the heading Start something else, click Support a students application for student finance
  3. Scroll down and click Support an application for student finance
  4. Type in your child or partners details so we can link you to their application

If youre asked to upload evidence to support a student finance application

After youve provided details about your household income, we may contact you to ask for evidence. If this happens, you can upload the evidence to us through your online account. Follow these steps if we request evidence from you:

  1. Sign in to your online account at www.gov.uk/student-finance-register-login
  2. Under the heading Manage your student finance, click Upload supporting evidence
  3. Click Upload evidence
  4. Follow the instructions to upload a file from your computer or mobile phone, the file cannot be larger than 16MB

Keep in mind, you should only send evidence to us if weve asked you to do so, otherwise it could delay the students application!
