Law Commissioner appointed for property, family and trust law

The appointment is for an initial term of five years from 1 October 2015.

Since 2013, Professor Hopkins has been Professor of Law at the University of Reading. Before this, he spent 15 years at the University of Southampton, most recently as Professor of Law.

Before joining the University of Southampton he was a lecturer in Law at Durham University (1993 to 1998) after beginning his career as a Research Assistant at the Law Commission (1992 to 1993).

In addition, Professor Hopkins is the case-notes editor of the Conveyance and Property Lawyer and Chair of the editorial board for Modern Studies in Property Law.

The appointment is subject to security clearance and has been conducted in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments code of practice on appointments for public bodies. He has not declared any political activity.
