Armed Forces Minister Penny Mordaunt has visited the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) to familiarise herself with the world class training facility and meet future British Army Officers training there.
In her first visit to the Academy, the Minister met with senior training officers and the Commandant Major General Paul Nanson CBE. Topics of discussion included recruitment of officers into the Army, the officer training pipeline and the structure of the training delivered on the 44-week commissioning course where all officers in the British Army are trained to take on the responsibilities of leading the soldiers under their command.
Miss Mordaunt was briefed on what it takes to complete the course, with a focus on the leadership that is instilled within British Army officers for which RMAS is famed around the world.

It is great to meet the cadets in their early stages of a career in the British Army and see first-hand what goes in to making the world class leaders that are developed at this outstanding training establishment.
These men and women will go on to serve all around the world keeping Britain safe in a huge range of roles from infantry officers to military engineers and intelligence officers. From their early days in the military they are already learning about international Defence engagement as they train alongside their international counterparts.
Armies and governments from more than 20 different countries send officer cadets to Sandhurst to train alongside the British cadets. As well as leadership, the course teaches the values and standards of the British military that will be taken on in their service of both the British Armed Forces and those from around the globe.
The Minister met with officer cadets from the senior term over lunch to discuss their experience and their ambitions for military service.
