This publication presents statistics from September 2022 onwards. It provides information on the levels of overall, authorised and unauthorised absence in:
state-funded primary schools
state-funded secondary schools
state-funded special schools
State-funded schools receive funding through their local authority or directly from the government.
It includes daily, weekly and year to date information on attendance and absence, in addition to reasons for absence. The release uses regular data automatically submitted to the Department for Education (DfE) by participating schools.

'Pupil attendance: 12 September 2022 to 6 January 2023' has changed to 'Pupil attendance: 12 September 2022 to 13 January 2023'. The date range has changed to show that these statistics are now published fortnightly.
