Guidance: River Thames: restrictions and closures

Before boating on the River Thames, you should check the current river conditions.

When Where Whats happening
Until further notice Marsh reach Fallen tree obstructing half of the navigation channel. Approximate location three quarters of a mile upstream of Marsh Lock. Please use caution when navigating.
Until further notice Bell Weir reach Fallen tree on right hand channel causing obstruction to navigation. Approximate location just downstream of Straight Road, Priest Hill and Windsor Road, what3words ///state.humble.sugars.
Until further notice Canal Bridge, Radcot A vehicle has damaged Canal Bridge, where Radcot Road A4095 crosses the River Thames. Please be cautious of falling debris if navigating near the bridge.
Until further notice Boulters Lock Gates on the pedestal side do not open fully. Width of the tail gates is restricted to no more than 5.5 metres (18). Please use caution when entering and exiting the lock.

Thursday 17 August and Sunday 3 September 2023 7pm to Midnight Caversham reach Temporary Bridge for Reading Festival 2023: a temporary footbridge will be installed across the River Thames at Scours Lane.

Friday 5 May to Monday 31 July 2023 Abingdon reach Nuneham Railway Viaduct southern bridge abutment repairs 2023: during this time there will be a restricted river under the southern arch.
Monday 10 July to Tuesday 18 July 2023 Hambleden reach Thames Traditional Boat Festival 2023: the navigation channel for both upstream and downstream traffic will be on the Remenham, left side of the river, along the Henley Royal Regatta course.
Monday 10 July to Friday 18 August 2023 Blakes Lock weir stream portage Blakes Lock portage closure 2023: navigation in the downstream weir stream will be restricted.
Tuesday 18 July 2023 8am to 5pm Iffley reach Folly Bridge Structural Survey 2023: this restriction is for works to be taken under the bridge arches of Folly Bridge.
Tuesday 18 July to Friday 11 August 2023 Hambleden reach Deconstruction of the Henley Royal Regatta Course 2023: there are restrictions in place while the regatta course is being dismantled.
Friday 21 July 2023 8am to 5pm Cleeve reach Wallingford Bridge Structural Survey 2023: this restriction is for works to be taken under the bridge arches of Wallingford Bridge.
Saturday 22 July 2023 9am to 4pm Teddington reach Hampton Court and Dittons Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Middlesex, right hand side of the river.
Saturday 22 July 2023 6:15pm to 9pm Hambleden reach Henley Club to Pub Swim 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Wargrave Road, left side of Bird Island and Rod Eyot.
Saturday 22 July and Sunday 23 July 2023 9am to 6:30pm Penton Hook reach Staines Amateur Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the left, Surrey side of the river.
Monday 24 July to Friday 20 October 2023 Teddington reach Teddington Lock Cut Footbridge Repairs 2023: marker buoys will be in place to mark the navigation restriction.
Saturday 29 July 2023 6am to 6:30pm Shepperton reach Chertsey and Shepperton Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the left, Surrey side of the river.
Saturday 29 July 2023 7:30am to 7pm Hambleden reach Henley Town and Visitors Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the right, Fawley Court side of the river.
Friday 4 August 2023 9am to 4:30pm Sunbury reach Weybridge Community Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the old river around Desborough Island.
Friday 4 August 2023 8am to 8pm and Saturday 5 August 2023 6am to 7pm Marsh reach Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta and Swim 2023: the navigation channel will be on the left, Wargrave side of the river.
Saturday 5 August 2023 8am to 6pm Bell Weir reach Wraysbury and Old Windsor Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Wraysbury, right hand side of the river.

Saturday 12 August and Sunday 13 August 2023 9am to 6pm Molesey reach Sunbury Amateur Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Surrey, left side of the river.
Saturday 19 August 2023 8:30am to 6pm Temple reach Hurley Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the right, Harleyford Estate side of the river.
Saturday 19 August 2023 9am to 5pm Sunbury reach TVSC Walton Reach Regatta 2023: the navigation channel will be on the Middlesex, right-hand side of the river.
