Detail of feedback received

We received a range of views from across the maritime sector on the proposed pathway to net zero and the barriers to decarbonisation. We also received suggestions for further policy options that the government could consider.

These views will help to build an evidence base that will be used to inform the refresh of the Clean Maritime Plan. The updated plan will be the governments formal response to this consultation and will set out the domestic maritime sectors pathway to net zero.

Summary

Invites views on routes to net zero and how best to accelerate decarbonisation in the domestic maritime sector.

Consultation description

We are seeking views and evidence on the optimal pathway to net zero emissions in 2050 for the domestic maritime sector, including where there is scope to accelerate decarbonisation across sub-sectors.

We also want to gather feedback on the barriers to maritime decarbonisation and explore the technological, operational and policy options that could be employed to address these barriers.

Well use the evidence received during this consultation to inform the development of indicative decarbonisation targets for the domestic maritime sector. It will also shape any future long-term interventions that the government plans to make in this area.

These indicative targets and details of the longer-term interventions required to achieve full decarbonisation will be included in an update of the Clean Maritime Plan, to be published in 2023.
