Dame Clara Furse and Richard Sharp re-appointed to the Financial Policy Committee

Clara and Richards first terms on the Financial Policy Committee (FPC) will expire on 31 March 2016. Their second terms will begin on 1 April 2016, and expire on 31 March 2019.

Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne said:

I am pleased to announce the re-appointment of Dame Clara Furse and Richard Sharp as external members of the Financial Policy Committee. Their contribution to establishing the committee as an effective and credible macroprudential authority has been invaluable.

Their knowledge and experience will continue to support the committee in ensuring emerging risks to financial stability are identified, monitored and effectively addressed.

  1. Dame Clara Furse DBE joined the Financial Policy Committee as an external member on 1 April 2013 when the Committee was established.
  2. Dame Clara is a non-executive Director of Nomura Holdings Inc., Vodafone Group Plc, Amadeus IT Holdings SA, and the UKs Department for Work and Pensions, where she is the lead independent director. She is a member of the Panel of Senior Advisors to Chatham House, a member of the International Advisory Council, Bocconi University, and chaired the Lead Expert Group of the UK Government Office for Science 2012 Foresight Project on the future of computer trading in financial markets. From January 2001 to May 2009, she was Chief Executive of the London Stock Exchange Group. During this period she was also a non-executive Director of Euroclear plc, LCH Clearnet Group Ltd., Fortis and a member of the Shanghai International Financial Advisory Council. From 2009 to 2013, she was a non-executive Director of Legal & General Group.
  3. Richard Sharp joined the Financial Policy Committee as an external member on 1 April 2013 when the Committee was established.
  4. Richard has over 30 years of experience in the financial sector, including commercial banking, derivatives, fixed income, private equity and investment banking. He spent 23 years at Goldman Sachs where he held a number of senior roles, most recently as Chairman of Goldman Sachs Principal Investment business in Europe. Prior to this, he worked in both commercial banking and investment banking for JP Morgan. Currently Richard is Chief Executive of DII Capital UK Adviser LLP, and a partner in Roundshield Partners LLP and SW7 Asset Management (UK) LLP; he is also a Director of Oncimmune, a former Chairman and an Emeritus Trustee of the Royal Academy and a Director of International Rescue UK.
